Web Site Hosting from Megaweb Developments

Essentially there are four types of hosting, dedicated, co-located, reseller and site hosting.

Dedicated

Fully managed server for your sole use, generally put together to your specifications both hardware and software

Co-located

This server belongs to you and maintained by you but located in our racks, it is solely for your use.

Reseller

This is suitable for people, small companies who have several sites or wish to resell the space to others, ideally suited to web designers

Web Site Hosting

This is shared space on a server, there could actually be several hundred sites running on the same server. Ideal for the small business who needs reliability and reasonable cost.

Megaweb Developments currently offer co-located, web site hosting and dedicated hosting, we hope to be able to offer reseller hosting in the future

"Is your data secure?"

What is Co-location?

Colocation is a system where you buy or rent a server and house it in a Network Operations Centre (NOC) with your server host. The benefits of this arrangement are that your host provides the environment and connectivity which otherwise would be prohibitively expensive for a small company, and you maintain operational control over your server and its facilities. Some of the main advantages of having your server offsite in a NOC are:

Connectivity

The NOC is specifically designed for server housing. There are many separate bandwidth feeds to the building from various providers. This makes your server's Internet connection both reliable and cost-effective.

Environmental

The air in the NOC is cooled, filtered and monitored. Your server's life is extended when it is run in a temperature-controlled, low humidity and dust-free environment.

Reliability

The NOC is power fed from a reliable power grid with redundant backup generators.

Security

There are security personnel on site 24 hours a day who monitor the complex alarm systems. Only authorised company technicians may enter the NOC. All other visitors have to be authorised and escorted on the premises.

Skilled Staff

Should you need assistance, skilled staff are available to help with any problems with your server(s).

Costs

Servers are installed on racks and therefore for efficiency we recommend that you use special rack mount designed servers. Each rack has typically 42 U of space and therefore charges are based on the number of U's that your specific server occupies. For further advice on server purchase please contact us. We charge an initial setup fee then a monthly fee based upon the number of U occupied and the bandwidth used. We only require one month's notice and there is no minimum contract length.

We have tried to undercut all the other suppliers based in Scotland, please note it is not straightforward to get this information and it is only an approximate guide as most companies will negotiate for exactly the right service they require, see below:

Colloquium:-one of the longest established service providers in Scotland with costs we believe from £50 per U per month.
EQSN:-can offer services in either Glasgow or Edinburgh will only provide specific quotations.
Internet for Business:- some costs can be seem at http://www.ifb.net/dedicatedserverhosting.cfm. from £2200 per annum.
Kanyo:- http://www.kanyo.co.uk offers co-location with an Edinburgh datacentre with prices from £50 per month also appealing is that there is only one month minimum contract period.
Lumison:- Based in Edinburgh prices from £75 per month for 1U machine does include some bandwidth.
